Description

This bread pudding recipe is your go-to for a rich, comforting dessert that’s perfect every time. Made with simple ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (brioche, challah, or French bread works best)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, or 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish. If using add-ins like raisins or chocolate chips, sprinkle them over the bread.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour the custard mixture over the bread, pressing gently to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  6. Let the bread pudding rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the bread with gluten-free bread.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
  • Top with caramel sauce, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit for an added treat.
