Description
This bread pudding recipe is your go-to for a rich, comforting dessert that’s perfect every time. Made with simple ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and endlessly customizable.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (brioche, challah, or French bread works best)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, or 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish. If using add-ins like raisins or chocolate chips, sprinkle them over the bread.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Slowly pour the custard mixture over the bread, pressing gently to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Let the bread pudding rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the bread with gluten-free bread.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
- Top with caramel sauce, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit for an added treat.
